Overcast Seaside Wedding at the Cliff House

With breathtaking seaside views, exquisite catering, and unforgettable experiences, the Cliff House was the perfect setting for Lauren and Dan’s celebration of love. The couple shared a quintessential Maine wedding, from a ceremony by the ocean to dessert by the Holy Donut. For everyone there, it was a wedding we won’t soon forget.

A cloudy day turned to sunshine

It was a rainy day at the Cliff House, but that didn’t stop us from creating the dream wedding for Lauren and Dan! The rain held off just long enough to enjoy a ceremony outside before moving everyone inside for a reception under twinkling lights. The flowers by Minka and decor throughout the venue created a romantic setting for a magical day. The evening sunset served as a reminder that there’s always a silver lining to every cloudy day.

Meet the Couple

How did you meet?

I was living in LA at the time and had to go to NYC for work. So, I called my friend Toby and we planned a fun night out in New York with some other friends. The night before, Toby was catching up with his friend Dan. Toby told Dan he was meeting me the next night and showed Dan my picture. Dan thought I was cute so he asked Toby to invite me out with them that night because he was planning on spending the following night with his family outside the city and wouldn't be able to join. Toby reached out and invited me to join him and Dan at the Soho House, but I was tired, so I told him I'd just see him tomorrow. Dan decided that he really wanted to meet me so he rearranged his entire next day so that he could be in the city to join Toby and me. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Your favorite memory from your wedding day?

I feel like I should say my favorite part was walking down the aisle and seeing Dan waiting for me, and that was lovely. But, honestly, my favorite part of our wedding was when everyone was dancing the night away. Getting to see all of our closest friends and family together in one place having fun and celebrating our love was such an amazing feeling.

Favorite part of having a wedding planner?

Honestly, we couldn't have done it without you. I am a TV Producer, which means I am a bit of a Type-A control freak, so when it came to planning my own wedding, there was no room for error. At first, the idea of relinquishing control of the biggest day of my life to a stranger gave me a ton of anxiety because, well, I'm a control freak. But also because I've been to weddings with bad wedding planners...they can be a disaster. Thankfully, that wasn't my story because I found you. You were SO on top of everything and always thinking ahead, that I felt completely comfortable putting my wedding in your hands and focusing on being the bride instead of the producer.

All of that was great, but where you really shined, was when it started to rain. My whole life I've wanted to get married outside with the ocean as my backdrop. We chose the Cliff House for our wedding because of the amazing setting and view. When it started to rain, the vision I had of my dream wedding began to fall apart. It didn't help that the hotel planner kept asking if I wanted to move the wedding inside and told me that if I stuck to having it outside, we wouldn't be able to use the microphone or speaker, which meant no music to walk down the aisle to, and no way for our guests to hear anything. I felt panicked and anxious, but you didn't pressure me to make a decision. You stayed calm and let me wait it out. Then by some small miracle, the rain stopped, you swooped in and made sure the chairs for guests were dried, the wedding procession was lined up, and you even found a way to make the music happen. It stopped raining just long enough for us to have the ceremony I had been dreaming of before it started pouring again. If you hadn't let me wait out the rain, or pushed everyone to dry the chair and set up the DJ as quickly as you did, I wouldn't have had my perfect wedding ceremony.
